The Bathroom In Home is certainly one of the most frequented rooms in the home. It is amazing how the ways in which bathrooms have been developed in my lifetime.
I started out with an outdoor loo complete with a Sears and Roebuck catalogue for reading material which of course had other uses as well. For those of you who have never used an outdoor loo or felt the slick pages of a Sears and Roebuck catalogue on your body, you have really totally missed out on one of life’s extraordinary experiences.
But back to the Bathroom In Home as we have come to know it.
Many homes now have more than one of these rooms. One of the things that I noticed when I first came to Australia was that the commode (toilet) is often in a room by itself rather than enhancing the décor of the basin, bathtub and/or shower and whatever else ends up in this most important room in the home.
What You Will Find In Bathrooms
So we now have in our bathrooms all sorts of things which can include lamps that heat, towel rails that heat, under the floor heating for the middle of the night visits, magnifying mirrors (I have no idea what they could be for!), drawers, chests of drawers and all sorts of storage places for the various bits of necessary equipment like hair dryers, razors, dental equipment, ointments, oils, deodorizers, scents, bookcase, magazine rack, medicines that for some reason end up in the Bathroom and on and on. There seems to be no end to the imagination of a household as to what they can incorporate into the Bathroom.
Decoration Choices
Now there is also the decoration of this room which comes into play. The color scheme is an essential decision which has to be made. This not only is the color of the walls, but also the color of mats on the floor and in the shower which of course must be compatible with the chosen color of the towels and washcloths. Eventually we will probably have to coordinate the color of the toothpaste and the mouthwash as well. Oh, sorry, you already have.
Special Bathroom For Visitors
Considering that fact that we also have to have a special room designed for visitors opens up an entire other element for discussion. I will try to cover some of these areas of consideration and vital choices for your Bathroom In Home in the following pages.

Hi Dobbs,
The bathroom in our home is always in high demand. Sometimes you have to make a booking in advance just to get in.
I remember the old outdoor loos. It wasn’t pretty. We used to use our magazines to beat the snakes out.
The modern bathroom is nice; not as adventurous, but nice.
PS. The magnifying mirrors are for putting on your Bare Essentials makeup.

Thanks for your comment. I have linked to your site and hope that it will mirror our mutual energies and expertize.
I look forward to the effect bare minerals makeup is going to have on my well used face.
As ever

Hello Dobbs,
I love the fact that our house has two bathrooms with two separate toilets. Guess I will have to get used to going back to a shower/toilet/basin once we hit the road:)
When we sold our house in D’aguilar this year, we colour co-ordinated the bathroom to match the rest of the house with the colour of our towels. It sure made the bathroom look bigger
I think the kitchen and the bathroom are the most important aspects of any home.
Cheers

Thanks for the comment. I am not sure about the kitchen and bathroom being color coordinated. It feels a bit like a recipe for some sort of disaster late at night after a bit of red wine.
Have a great trip and stay in touch.
As ever

I think the bathroom is the most important room in the house especially if you are selling. We also had a dreaded pit toilet for a while and I hated going in there especially at night. You never new what was curled up inside. I love the modern convenience of a good bathroom.

Thanks for your comment. I couldn’t agree more. Having grown up with an outside loo and graduated to the glories of the modern overdone bathroom I just love it. I don’t expect to entertain you there, but am glad that you like it as well.

Hi Dobbs
Ah!! I too remember the outside loo, the most unusual one we ever had was where there were 2 in 1 seats no dividing wall. remember when we called it “the Dunny”
These days I do have my Bathroom Inside Home and we do have 2 but separate ones
